Please help support night-time entertainment in SF by coming to a hearing on Monday, Oct 26 at 1pm in room 263 at City Hall!

A vocal group of ultra-conservatives have banded together with the anti-alcohol and anti-entertainment elements in the police department and the state Alcohol Beverage Control ( ABC ) to shut down night-time entertainment in San Francisco. This is a very real threat. These people have come to hearings at City Hall and blamed night-time entertainment (music venues, bars and beyond) for violent crime, murder, prostitution and any host of problems that the city has been facing for decades. Never before have they been this strong and powerful, if you support live music, the venues and the local arts community at large, you need to show up and tell City Hall and support the Entertainment Commission. We need you to show up at Monday's hearing and/or send an email of support now.

Few artists have the ability to produce timeless music that can cross genre barriers and be enjoyed by listeners with diverse musical interests. Green Velvet is one of these few.

Producing under the Green Velvet moniker as well as his alter ego Cajmere, Curtis A. Jones has released a steady stream of dance floor aimed tracks since 1991. His discography boasts many impressive contributions to dance music: Flash, Answering Machine, (It's Time For) The Percolator, La La Land, Shake & Pop and many others.

Curtis' ear for great music put him at the forefront of two seminal labels in Chicago: Cajual Records and Relief Records. These labels hosted his original works as well as other renowned artists such as Armand Van Helden, DJ Sneak, Dajae, Johnny Fiasco, Roy Davis Jr., Mark Grant, Gene Farris and more. Green Velvet is usually found traveling across the globe to perform at festivals and huge clubs but May 17th he will make a rare West Coast appearance at San Francisco's Temple Nightclub, playing a DJ set while singing some of his original works.

Rock It Science founder and local favorite Eric Sharp will open for Green Velvet in the Main Room. The Destiny Lounge will be hosted by Lights Down Low and will feature Dirtybird Records' rising star Worthy as well as Lights Down Low residents Sleazemore and Rchrd Oh!? along with Green Gorilla Lounge's Jimmy B. The How Weird Street Fair is an experiment in creating peace, and a benefit for the non-profit World Peace Through Technology Organization. For its ninth year, the will feature seven city blocks filled with art and celebration, nine stages of music and dancing, food and vendors from around the world selling unique and creative wares, and non-profit organizations to educate and inspire.

Take a break from the music and come inside to build community through a variety of hands-on workshops, short presentations, and open discussions. There will also be exhibits of technologies that foster peace and sustainability.

Workshops and presenters include:

Pachamma Alliance - presentation and workshop on efforts to preserve the world's rainforests, and bring forth an environmentally sustainable, socially just, and spiritually fulfilling human presence on our planet.

Gamelan X - building community energy and unity by the interweaving of voices using the Balinese Monkey Chant (Kecak) technique.

Josh Wolf - independent journalist and a filmmaker, and recent San Francisco mayoral candidate.

Chlorophyll Collective - utilizing algae as a new way to grow food, fuel, and fertilizer; and to transform pollution.

And Heartsrevolution is the name of their band. BB and Lo serve you up with synthy goodness in their debut single, "CYOA." They even released a single in the UK on white heart-shaped vinyl in honor of their candyland. As most of us know, Rye Rye is the next hot shit to hit the scene. She is sexy, fly, and is keeping it real. Originally from Baltimore, currently on tour with miss M.I.A, and recently signed to Mad Decent, I think we can say, she is doing alright for a 16 yr old.

Compression has been a major contributor to San Francisco nightlife and music culture for over 8 years and on Friday, March 21st we proudly present the “World of Drum & Bass” tour at SF’s hottest new nightclub, Temple. The “World of Drum & Bass” tour, or WODNB travels around the globe ever year with it’s feature event at the Miami Winter Music Conference. Last year Compression hosted over 1000 people at the WODNB in San Francisco. This year we except the event to double in size with our star studded line up featuring DJ SS, FABIO, SIMON BASSLINE SMITH, MC TALI and many more.

Last year Tribe.net called Compression’s WODNB SF 07 event; “The left coast representing with big bad bass and swift breaks, elevating the crowd with whatever it takes. Boh! Represent! One Love all jungle massive!”
